Thoughts and Pictures From the Turner Pipes Workshop

Rusticated Nosewarmer

The Pipemakers Forum is holding a fun “Pipe in the Hat” trading event.  The idea is that each participant makes a pipe with a common theme, and then each draws another participant’s name.  Whoever you draw gets the pipe you made, while you get a pipe from someone else.  The idea is to foster a creative project that challenges each participant to create something to the best of his ability, and each participant winds up with a new pipe in the process.

It has been a fun little distraction, and I look forward to seeing the contributions my colleagues create for the project.

The theme we decided on was “nosewarmer.”  Here is my contribution to the fun:

The deep, craggy, black rustication on this pipe feels like a throwback to another age.  It feels like a pipe that a woodsman would smoke while warming himself in hsi cabin on a snowy evening deep in the woods.  I’m not sure why, but that’s how it makes me feel.  The top of the bowl is finished smooth with a tan stain that brings great contrast to the piece.

Length: 3.75″
Height: 1.5″
Chamber Diamter:  .75″
Chamber Depth: 1″

This pipe is not sold, but will be delivered to a member of the pipemakers forum as part of our Pipe in the Hat trade at the end of this month.
